After this series was launched, we received various questions from many customers all over the world, here are some typical questions:
- One question though how is battery problem solved? I mean batteries loose lots of capacity in cold applications, they are simply not meant for cold environments, or they perform way shorter time, so I wonder what kind of battery is used in your solution?
- At such low temperature, usually there are problems for the battery to charge and discharge, how is it resolved in your product?
- It is not clear if this is some special new battery you invented, or you use 2, or 3 or 4 times bigger capacity battery to make sure it last for 90 minutes under -40°C, or you use some heaters, or something else. It is ok you say that it does work, please advise how this can be achieved.

In the past, there are two main low-temperature emergency solutions in the market. One is to work on the formula of the battery to increase its low-temperature charging and discharging performance, the other is to heat the battery to enhance its charging capacity when the ambient temperature is below a certain temperature. These two solutions have shortcomings, by changing the battery’s formula to enhance its performance at low temperature, will make the battery’s performance at high temperature is restricted, and this kind of cold battery can only charge and discharge well from -20°C to +40°C or so, and the cost is high. However, the solution using heating plate can only solve the problem of charging at low temperature, and the discharge time will be reduced obviously and cannot be guaranteed.

The working principle of the 18430X-X Cold Pack LED Emergency Driver is to heat and keep the battery to a certain temperature so that the battery can be fully charged in normal and completely discharged in emergency situation. So the determining factors are the right temperature to make the battery fully charged, and to keep the right temperature range from start to above 90 minutes emergency working while the temperature drops without heating.
